Water Damage Pensacola

Water damage in Pensacola is an everyday occurrence, and it happens more often than not. Questions you might be asking yourself is “What is water damage exactly? “ . Water damage is a large number of possible occasions that can happen when water leaks, or burst causing a flooding in the house. For instance, the toilet on the second floor can overflow in the middle of the night causing water to pour all over the bathroom floor. The water will then spread into the carpet on the hallway and continue to spread throughout the floor until the source is stopped. It can soak into the walls as well. With it being on the second story, the water has a chance of soaking through the floor and flooding the story below it. Leaking roofs, busted pipes, broken dishwasher hoses, overflowing washing machines are all different causes of water damage.

If you experience water damage in your home, time is of the essence. You need to get it removed as soon as possible. To restore your home  If the water sits, it will start destroying material. It will rot wood, start to grow mold, rust metal and so much more. Moisture promotes the growth of mold and other organisms. The faster you act when there is water damage, the better chance you have of saving materials that have been damaged in your home. Complete DKI specializes in the mitigating the effects of water. We have a trained staff of certified employees ready to help in situations like this. Complete DKI uses the highest quality equipment, and well documented procedures to control the water damage.

Complete DKI’s staff will extract the water from the carpet, tile, hardwood floors, and so on. We take moisture readings and pictures in every room effected by the damage and we document everything. Once the water has been extracted we will start the drying process. The staff will set up high quality dehumidifiers and fans to dry out everything that has been effected. There are several different categories of water damage that include :

Category 1 – This is clean water, or water that does not pose a hazard to humans. This type of water usually comes from a sink overflow or broken appliance pipe.

Category 2 – This water is also called ‘gray water’. This water is contaminated and may cause sickness if ingested. Broken toilets or seepage may cause this type.

Category 3 – This water is known as ‘black water’ and is unsanitary. This contains bacteria and other organisms that cause sickness. Sewage problems and contaminated still water can cause this.

If a Category 3 water loss occurs, everything must be removed. Which means, whatever the water has come in contact with or has soaked into, has to be taken or cut out, such as walls, floors, shelves, ductwork and more. If you or someone you know experiences water damage in Pensacola, call Complete DKI at our Florida location at (850)-225-5354. Our staff is on call 24/7 always ready to help.

Assignment of Benefits VS Direction to Pay

Assignment of benefits (AOB) allows the contractor to stand in the shoes of the homeowner for insurance collection purposes. This legal arrangement allows unscrupulous contractors to over inflate or submit improper claims, causing legal battles between the contractor and the insurance company, with the consumer left out of the picture. It gives all the rights provided to the homeowner in the insurance policy to the contractor. AOB is commonly used when a homeowner experiences a water loss, suck as a leaking pipe, or an overflow from a sink. Complete DKI does not use Assignment of Benefits.

You also have Direction to Pay, which gives the insurance carrier permission to put Complete DKI’s name on the check. Property Restoration is one of the only industries that all the work is preformed before any money is paid to the contractor. A direction to pay allows the insurance company to include Complete DKI on the payment. This helps insure that Complete DKI is paid for the work performed.

If you or someone you know experience a damaged pipe, or overflow of a toilet, call Complete DKI first. Complete DKI has a call before you claim program that encourages you to call us before you make your claim. By doing this, it can reduce your claims ratio by knowing the severity of the loss. Contact Complete DKI to evaluate the loss, and we will also advise homeowners on steps to take to prevent further damage. Complete DKI also does a loss follow up, we will contact you with details of the loss and pictures. If you or someone you know experiences water, fire, wind, or mold damage, call Complete DKI at 850-225-5354. Our uniformed, trained staff of 40 employees are willing to help 24/7.

Most everyone knows that if they are having construction done that they should hire a licensed contractor.  To become a licensed contractor a state usually imposes specific requirements such as minimum education or work experience. The state may also require that the contractor prove knowledge through examinations.  A business license however is different from a contractors license.  A business license can be obtained with a couple hundred dollars and a visit to local clerk of court. Finding a licensed contractor isn’t difficult, all licensed contractor advertisements—whether it be an ad in the phone book or newspaper, a flyer that shows up at your front door, or the company’s name on the side of a truck— have the contractor’s state license number. You can check the license status online or call  850.487.1395.

Finding a PROFESSIONAL Licensed Contractor is the challenging part.  For most homeowners, the hardest part of any home renovation project isn’t the work itself, it’s finding a reliable contractor to do the job. Installing kitchen cabinets, knocking down a wall or retiling the bathroom is simple compared with the struggle of hiring a professional contractor who will perform at a high level from start to finish, or even just to show up in a timely manner.  There are so many stories about contractors starting a job and just never returning!

Here are some tips for finding a reliable, professional licensed contractor:

  • Ask your insurance agent- if work to be done is a result of a disaster (man made or natural) and will be claimed through insurance, contact your agent for licensed contractors.
  • Ask friends, relatives and co-workers for references. People you know who have done similar projects are your reliable sources.
  • Read online reviewsGoogle, Angie’s List, and the Better Business Bureau are reliable sources.  Click here for Complete DKI’s Google reviews
  • Check their License!- ask to see his/her pocket license, along with a picture I.D. Make sure the person you’re dealing with is the same person on the license.
  • Verify the contractor’s business location and telephone number-A contractor who operates a business from the back of a pickup truck with a cellphone may be difficult to find if a job needs to be fixed after final payment is made.

Let’s be positive and assume that most licensed contractors are competent, honest, hardworking and financially responsible. However, many are not and problems could be prevented if homeowners knew their licensed contractor’s work history.  Complete DKI is licensed in Pensacola and Mobile.  Our teams provide property restoration services such as mold remediation, water damage remediation, fire & smoke damage mediation, storm cleanup, emergency response, and construction services, so we can be there whenever and wherever you need us. We offer state-of-the-art equipment, and rapid service. Complete DKI  employs quality professionals with the skills and proven track records to ensure satisfaction with our work.  We continually update our skills through seminars, trade programs, mandatory schooling and industry affiliations. Turning on the TV in the morning to our local news channel and hearing that bad weather is on it’s way is the absolute last thing we want to hear to start our day. Of course when we get word that a bad storm is brewing and our home is in danger, it is human nature to become a little nervous. Now sometimes we can hear this news and think that the meteorologist that is making the prediction is wrong and that the storm will pass; that could be likely BUT it is also very likely that they are in fact correct and we need to prepare ourselves and our family for the worst. So where do we start? Complete DKI is here to help with some tips on what to do, what to pack and how to prepare your safe room BEFORE we get the news of a storm coming our way!

  • Make  a family emergency plan. Make sure you discuss with all of your family members what to do in case you have to get out of your house immediately or if you get split up during the process. Have a meeting spot near your house that is in a safe place.
  • Prepare a home emergency kit. Some key items for this kit would include- Batteries (stored safely), medication, portable radio, back up phone battery/charger, water/snacks, first aid kit, sturdy gloves, torch (battery operated), toiletries, pet food (if applicable), baby food/diapers (if applicable), any valuables, water proof bags, etc.
  • Keep your home emergency kit in a safe and dry place. Make sure that all of the items are not expired and are able to use.
  • Secure any items around your property that could fly away in high winds and could be a hazard to you or your home.
  • Make sure your home and car insurance is up to date
  • Clear any loose branches around your home that could be a hazard during high winds
  • Make sure you know how to correctly and safely turn off your power and gas in case of an emergency
  • Identify your safe room and make sure your family knows the quickest and most efficient way to get themselves and any pets into the room
  • Get shutters or metal screens fitted to your windows for extra protection
  • After a storm warning, act quickly and listen to the advice officials have given you. Make sure your other family members are aware and ready to move in t If you experience damage in your home, call Complete DKI 24/7. • Make sure your pets are safely inside
  • Grab your emergency kit and activate your family emergency plan

Sometimes we don’t get a lot of warning before a storm. You could have heard a day ago that there will be a bad storm passing and there will be tornado warnings, but you think nothing of it. The next thing your know, the electricity cuts out and you hear faint sirens notifying you that a tornado is near. Times like those make us thankful that we have family emergency plans and we know what to do in these types of situations. If you don’t already have a plan, we encourage you to take these tips and put one together for you and your family. Never take a storm warning lightly; always prepare for the worst.

When it comes to storms, we really don’t ever know exactly what we are going to get. Even though we might think that the next storm brewing will be something small, we still always need to be prepared. Tornado’s are a very strong force of nature and we don’t ever really have that much notice before one hits. Complete DKI has partnered up with the new Red Cross Emergency App that is now available on all smartphones, tablets and the Apple Watch. This app is great to have in case of any kind of emergency. It’s free and gives you the access to have vital emergency information at your fingertips. Along with the app, we have some great tips on preparedness as well as cleanup information for you and your family.

  • Know the difference! tornado watch is when a tornado is very likely to occur in the area. Always make sure your family knows where the safe room is and has all the needed supplies in case of an emergency. A tornado warning is when a tornado has been spotted or a weather radar is showing signs of one in the area. This means your life and your property could be in great danger and it is important to seek immediate shelter.
  • Always listen to your local radio station during any kind of emergency to keep up to date with the storm and to be informed about what may be a threat to your safety.
  • It is important for your family to have a designated safe room and to make sure everyone is on the same page. This safe room needs to be able to fit you and your family as well as pets; No windows at all and preferably a basement or room on the lowest level.
  • Make sure to gather up anything outside that could become a projectile (including dead branches on trees) and possibly hurt you or your property.
  • After a tornado, make sure to stay out of damaged buildings and watch out for anything that could cause harm. (power lines, broken glass, busted gas lines)
  • If you have pets, make sure they are under control. Try to keep them on leashes or in kennels if possible to avoid any injury.
  • If anything in your home has spilled that could possibly be a fire hazard, properly clean up the mess immediately.
  • It is important to document any damage that has taken place on your property for insurance claims.

Most of the time, a tornado or a huge storm is not the first thing that is on our minds. We don’t really think about it until it’s right here staring us in the face. That is how fatalities and other serious injuries unfortunately can occur. Did you know that tornado’s caused an average of 70 fatalities and 1,500 injuries in the U.S. alone each year? They are very serious storms and should never be taken lightly. Just imagine, Johnny’s Red Cross Emergency App warned him one very early morning that there was a tornado warning in the area. So this means, there has been one sighted and it can be dangerous. Well, Johnny chose to ignore the alert and went back to sleep. He was abruptly woken up by his roof being torn off by the strong force of the tornado and his only shelter is under his mattress in his room.  This is something that no one ever wants to experience so that is why it is so important to be prepared and have a safety plan!  If you experience damage in your home, call Complete DKI 24/7. Our technicians work around the clock and are always fully prepared in uniforms and clearly marked Complete DKI vans. Our technicians are alwaysprofessional and presentable! If you experience fire damage, please contact our full service location on Davis Highway by calling 850-CALL-DKI or 850-225-5354. Complete DKI wishes everyone a very safe and happy New Year!
