Water Damage Pensacola

Water damage in Pensacola is an everyday occurrence, and it happens more often than not. Questions you might be asking yourself is “What is water damage exactly? “ . Water damage is a large number of possible occasions that can happen when water leaks, or burst causing a flooding in the house. For instance, the toilet on the second floor can overflow in the middle of the night causing water to pour all over the bathroom floor. The water will then spread into the carpet on the hallway and continue to spread throughout the floor until the source is stopped. It can soak into the walls as well. With it being on the second story, the water has a chance of soaking through the floor and flooding the story below it. Leaking roofs, busted pipes, broken dishwasher hoses, overflowing washing machines are all different causes of water damage.

If you experience water damage in your home, time is of the essence. You need to get it removed as soon as possible. To restore your home  If the water sits, it will start destroying material. It will rot wood, start to grow mold, rust metal and so much more. Moisture promotes the growth of mold and other organisms. The faster you act when there is water damage, the better chance you have of saving materials that have been damaged in your home. Complete DKI specializes in the mitigating the effects of water. We have a trained staff of certified employees ready to help in situations like this. Complete DKI uses the highest quality equipment, and well documented procedures to control the water damage.

Complete DKI’s staff will extract the water from the carpet, tile, hardwood floors, and so on. We take moisture readings and pictures in every room effected by the damage and we document everything. Once the water has been extracted we will start the drying process. The staff will set up high quality dehumidifiers and fans to dry out everything that has been effected. There are several different categories of water damage that include :

Category 1 – This is clean water, or water that does not pose a hazard to humans. This type of water usually comes from a sink overflow or broken appliance pipe.

Category 2 – This water is also called ‘gray water’. This water is contaminated and may cause sickness if ingested. Broken toilets or seepage may cause this type.

Category 3 – This water is known as ‘black water’ and is unsanitary. This contains bacteria and other organisms that cause sickness. Sewage problems and contaminated still water can cause this.

If a Category 3 water loss occurs, everything must be removed. Which means, whatever the water has come in contact with or has soaked into, has to be taken or cut out, such as walls, floors, shelves, ductwork and more. WE CAN HELP

Nutrients (food), suitable place to grow, and moisture are the only three things needed to have mold grow and spread quickly.   These three things are not hard for mold to find.  Mold can be hidden in walls, under carpets, behind ceiling tiles or it can be visible and growing right in front of your eyes.  How do you know if you have mold?

  • Look for visible mold growth (it may look cottony, velvety, rough, or leathery and have different colors like white, gray, brown, black, yellow, or green). Mold often appears as a staining or fuzzy growth on furniture or building materials (walls, ceilings, or anything made of wood or paper). Look for signs of moisture or water damage (water leaks, standing water, water stains, condensation, etc.).
  • Check around air handling units (air conditioners, furnaces) for standing water. Routinely inspect the evaporator coils, liner surfaces, drain pans and drain lines.
  • Search areas where you notice mold odors. If you can smell an earthy or musty odor, you may have a mold problem.
  • If mold-allergic people have some allergy symptoms when in your home, mold might be the problem.

Check out what Brice Pelfrey, CPM, Director of Property Management, Beck Property Company, Inc. said about his mold experience with Complete DKI…..

” I have used several mold remediation companies in the past, and tenants are very rarely completely satisfied once the work is done. Usual tenant complaints are of headaches due to mold still in the facility or call weeks later and say the mold had returned. The last time I had a mold problem, I called Complete DKI. They performed the work afterhours so that regular business would not be interrupted. They performed all the mold remediation, and I have not had a single complaint from the tenant. I was very impressed with how thorough the crew was with the mold removal and I was especially pleased at how quickly Complete DKI finished the job. I highly recommend Complete DKI. ”

Halloween Fire Safety

Every year on Halloween, kids race their friends door to door while trick-or-treating to get the best candy from each house. While this is such a fun time, we have to remember that due to our Halloween decorations, there is a scary chance that a house fire could be started. Candle fires are a leading cause of house fires in the United States. Between 2003 and 2007 an average of 15,260 home fires were started by candles. Did you know that Halloween is one of the top five days for candle fires? Complete DKI has some tips for preventing house fires this Halloween to make sure yours can be sweet and safe!

  • Always make sure all of your smoke alarms are working properly.
  • Clear all exits so nothing is blocking an escape route.
  • Instead of an open flame in your Jack-O-Lantern or any other decorations on your front porch or around your house, try to use batteries. If you insist on using a real candle, please use extreme caution while there is an open flame.
  • Some decorations can be caught on fire easily so try to keep anything that is not flame-resistant or flame-retardant away from an open flame or other heat sources.
  • Try to not overload electrical outlets and keep extension cords to a minimum.
  • Just in case of a fire, please make sure your children are aware of fire safety such as “stop, drop and roll” and the fire escape route in your home.

You may not think a house fire could happen to you this Halloween but, it very well could! There might be a very animated group of kids dressed up as Power Rangers approaching your front door for some candy and Jason knocks over your Jack-O-Lantern and next thing you know, your gorgeous home is burned to the ground. With that being said, please use extreme caution so you and your family can have a safe and fun night of trick-or-treating or other spooky activities!

Give Complete DKI a call at 850.CALL.DKI or 251.CALL.DKI if you have suffered from a house fire.
