Complete DKI and Hurricane Season

Having a CODE RED Main Street contract with Complete DKI, you will be top priority when a hurricane hits.  Complete DKI is here for you before, during, and after the storm.  You may be wondering how they prepare for a hurricane or how they are able to respond to all their clients?  Here is a brief timeline on how Complete DKI works during a hurricane:

Pre-Storm

When the hurricane is 72 hours out, clients make contact with Complete DKI.  Complete DKI will help you board up your facility, move items, and gather information on how to contact you.  When the hurricane is 24-48 hours out, DKI will be making sure you are ready.  Checking to make sure there’s no last minute things you need and seeing what problems you may be expecting.  During this time, DKI staff will be securing large commercial equipment, such as power generators,  in a safe, easily accessible location about 2-3 hours from the coast waiting the storm out.  For CODE RED clients with larger facilities, equipment will be earmarked specifically for you.

In The Eye

When the hurricane reaches land, Complete DKI will be available via text, e-mail, and as by phone (as long as the phone lines hold out).  Complete DKI will be stationed at the office with other DKI franchisees to provide equipment and manpower.  All DKI franchises that join Complete DKI will also have FL licenses and ready to help.

Post Storm

After the hurricane hits, Complete DKI will contact you to assess the damage to your facility.  There will be staff available to answer and triage phone calls.  As soon as the road conditions make it possible, Complete DKI will dispatch teams from their office to your facility.  For larger facilities, Complete DKI will be able to supply power generation to start the cleanup process as soon as possible.  And the equipment that was earmarked specifically for your facility, will be on it’s way to get you back to normalcy as soon as possible.  Complete DKI will also work with the adjuster, HOAs, and the insurance companies after the hurricane.

Compete DKI  has the largest equipment inventory in North America, including over 250,000 pieces of drying equipment.  And with over 25,000 certified restoration technicians, Complete DKI will get you back up to normalcy quickly.  Get in contact with Complete DKI to start a relationship today.  They will ensure that when a disaster happens, everyone involved is working towards the same goal.

When it comes to storms, we really don’t ever know exactly what we are going to get. Even though we might think that the next storm brewing will be something small, we still always need to be prepared. Tornado’s are a very strong force of nature and we don’t ever really have that much notice before one hits. Complete DKI has partnered up with the new Red Cross Emergency App that is now available on all smartphones, tablets and the Apple Watch. This app is great to have in case of any kind of emergency. It’s free and gives you the access to have vital emergency information at your fingertips. Along with the app, we have some great tips on preparedness as well as cleanup information for you and your family.

  • Know the difference! tornado watch is when a tornado is very likely to occur in the area. Always make sure your family knows where the safe room is and has all the needed supplies in case of an emergency. A tornado warning is when a tornado has been spotted or a weather radar is showing signs of one in the area. This means your life and your property could be in great danger and it is important to seek immediate shelter.
  • Always listen to your local radio station during any kind of emergency to keep up to date with the storm and to be informed about what may be a threat to your safety.
  • It is important for your family to have a designated safe room and to make sure everyone is on the same page. This safe room needs to be able to fit you and your family as well as pets; No windows at all and preferably a basement or room on the lowest level.
  • Make sure to gather up anything outside that could become a projectile (including dead branches on trees) and possibly hurt you or your property.
  • After a tornado, make sure to stay out of damaged buildings and watch out for anything that could cause harm. (power lines, broken glass, busted gas lines)
  • If you have pets, make sure they are under control. Try to keep them on leashes or in kennels if possible to avoid any injury.
  • If anything in your home has spilled that could possibly be a fire hazard, properly clean up the mess immediately.
  • It is important to document any damage that has taken place on your property for insurance claims.

Most of the time, a tornado or a huge storm is not the first thing that is on our minds. We don’t really think about it until it’s right here staring us in the face. That is how fatalities and other serious injuries unfortunately can occur. Did you know that tornado’s caused an average of 70 fatalities and 1,500 injuries in the U.S. alone each year? They are very serious storms and should never be taken lightly. Just imagine, Johnny’s Red Cross Emergency App warned him one very early morning that there was a tornado warning in the area. So this means, there has been one sighted and it can be dangerous. Well, Johnny chose to ignore the alert and went back to sleep. He was abruptly woken up by his roof being torn off by the strong force of the tornado and his only shelter is under his mattress in his room.  This is something that no one ever wants to experience so that is why it is so important to be prepared and have a safety plan!  If you experience damage in your home, call Complete DKI 24/7. With Winter quickly approaching us, all that is on our minds is hot chocolate, warm blankets, layers of clothing, cranking the heat up, and for a few of us a miserable couple of months ahead. While some of us may be more than ready for Winter, others are indeed, not! We all like to make sure we are warm and comfy in our homes, especially during these cold months. There are many safe heating methods that Complete DKI would love to share with you, as well as those not so smart methods that could do a lot of damage to you and/or your home. Here are some tips for you and your family this Winter!

  • Never burn charcoal inside your home as a fuel alternative. This is extremely dangerous. If charcoal is being burnt in an enclosed space, it gives off deadly amounts of carbon monoxide fumes that could kill you.
  • Do not burn excessive amounts of paper to build a vast fire in the fire place. This can cause a house fire by igniting the soot and creosote in the chimney. Also, never remove the fireplace screen to allow more heat in the house. It is there to keep sparks from flying out of the fire place and starting a fire.
  • Electric furnaces, baseboard heaters, and other heating methods that use electricity, are the most efficient and safe heating methods out there. Although these methods are a bit pricey, if they are an option for you, the safety features on these heaters make it worth it for your family’s safety.
  • Natural gas heating is very cost effective and actually a very popular way to heat your home. Natural gas is very clean and healthy for the environment we live in. No matter what time of the year it is or what the weather is like outside, natural gas is always safe and reliable. Once you start using it,is has an immediate impact on the environment.
  • Do not use your kitchen stove as a heating source. This is a huge fire hazard and can cause serious damage. People have been known to leave all the burners on at the same time or even set the oven temperature at the highest it can go to heat their home. If you have a gas oven and you do this, carbon monoxide gas can build up and poison you and your family.

Of course when we are cold and uncomfortable we will try any method to make our homes warm. Just keep in mind the tips that we shared today and know that there are very safe ways as well as completely dangerous ways to produce heat. It is very important to educate yourself as well as your family when it comes to fire hazards. Your Aunt Liz from Florida could be visiting you in Colorado and of course she is not used to any temperatures below fifty degrees. It’s currently negative ten degrees in Colorado and all she is worried about is finding some kind of warmth. Everyone is asleep so she turns on the burners on the stove and then falls back asleep. Next thing you know, the entire family is woken up by flames surrounding the house and you have to follow your emergency escape plan to get out! Of course no one ever wants to go through this experience so please keep these safe heating methods in mind this season!
