WE CAN HELP

Nutrients (food), suitable place to grow, and moisture are the only three things needed to have mold grow and spread quickly.   These three things are not hard for mold to find.  Mold can be hidden in walls, under carpets, behind ceiling tiles or it can be visible and growing right in front of your eyes.  How do you know if you have mold?

  • Look for visible mold growth (it may look cottony, velvety, rough, or leathery and have different colors like white, gray, brown, black, yellow, or green). Mold often appears as a staining or fuzzy growth on furniture or building materials (walls, ceilings, or anything made of wood or paper). Look for signs of moisture or water damage (water leaks, standing water, water stains, condensation, etc.).
  • Check around air handling units (air conditioners, furnaces) for standing water. Routinely inspect the evaporator coils, liner surfaces, drain pans and drain lines.
  • Search areas where you notice mold odors. If you can smell an earthy or musty odor, you may have a mold problem.
  • If mold-allergic people have some allergy symptoms when in your home, mold might be the problem.

Check out what Brice Pelfrey, CPM, Director of Property Management, Beck Property Company, Inc. said about his mold experience with Complete DKI…..

” I have used several mold remediation companies in the past, and tenants are very rarely completely satisfied once the work is done. Usual tenant complaints are of headaches due to mold still in the facility or call weeks later and say the mold had returned. The last time I had a mold problem, I called Complete DKI. They performed the work afterhours so that regular business would not be interrupted. They performed all the mold remediation, and I have not had a single complaint from the tenant. I was very impressed with how thorough the crew was with the mold removal and I was especially pleased at how quickly Complete DKI finished the job. I highly recommend Complete DKI. ”

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas….Keep that in mind this year while cooking your holiday meal. I think we can all agree a charred and soot filled Christmas is last on our list! Cooking in the kitchen on Christmas can be a very stressful event. Family is in town, kids are running around like crazy and having all your family in one house is bound to be pure chaos. Did you know that frying in the kitchen poses the greatest risk for a fire? Since this is the sad truth, Complete DKI would like to provide some tips for you and your family this Christmas to prevent a disaster.

  • First and foremost, always make sure that your home has working smoke alarms. Never remove any of the batteries without replacing them. Having a working smoke alarm can save your life.
  • Even though this time of the year is hectic, make sure you are always paying attention to your food and never leave it unattended. Always be alert and have timers for your dishes. This helps prevent kitchen fires and of course, who would want their food burnt to a crisp?
  • Leftovers are the best this time of year. It’s like your Christmas meal gets to go on for days and what is better than that? Make sure that you keep leftovers in the fridge and do not leave anything in the oven. If another family member didn’t realize the oven was stocked up, they could turn it on and this would be a recipe for disaster.
  • Leading up to Christmas Eve, you have all the kids in town and since cooking will be the only thing you will have to do for the next couple days, pizza delivery is a must. Make sure that the pizza boxes do not get left in the oven. This is a huge fire risk.
  • In case of an emergency, it is important that your family has an emergency escape plan and knows what to do in case of a fire.
  • If you are frying food this Christmas, make sure when the fryer is in use it is never left unattended. Unattended cooking is the leading cause for kitchen fires.

Christmas is the most exciting time of the year. It’s a holiday for giving, loving, eating and being around our loved ones. Even though we are all going to be busy preparing our holiday meal, try to keep these tips in mind to prevent a disaster in your home this year. We often think that leaving the food to fry by itself will be just fine while we go and greet Aunt Betty at the front door but the next thing you know little Charlie rides his new scooter through the kitchen while Susan is chasing him, they knock over the grease filled fryer without realizing it and the next thing you know the kitchen is up in flames. We can all agree that a house fire is not on our Christmas list to Santa this year.

Tis the season to be jolly! I’m sure that most of us can agree that Christmas is the best time of the year! Christmas trees, beautiful ornaments, houses all around town shining with lights, poinsettias on the front porch and of course a good Christmas meal. It is such a wonderful time of year that sometimes we can be so caught up in the moment that we forget some of the most important fire safety precautions. Did you know that U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated 210 home fires per year that  began with Christmas tree fires in 2009-2013? Unfortunately, Christmas trees can be a huge fire hazard so it is up to you to take the correct precautions to ensure that you and your family can have safe and fire-free holiday!

Complete DKI is here to help you this holiday season! Before you start your decorating this year, please take a minute to check out these valuable tips!

  • Before you start hanging up lights on your house, inspect them thoroughly to make sure that they are working properly and don’t have any loose connections or eroded ends. If you do notice a light bulb out, replace them right away!
  • Try not to overload your homes electrical circuits. This can be very dangerous and can cause a fire!
  • To prevent getting electrocuted, use insulated hooks to hang up lights instead of nails or screws.
  • Always make sure to turn off your Christmas lights before leaving your home or going to bed.
  • Make sure that the lights you are using outside are labeled “outside lights” and the lights you are using inside are labeled “inside lights”.
  • Never place your Christmas tree anywhere near a heat source. Especially a fire place.
  • Christmas trees always look better wrapped in lights, but please do not overload it with them. This can cause your circuits to overload which can lead to a fire.
  • Keeping in mind that your home could possibly suffer from a fire, take precautions and make sure that all exits are clear and your Christmas tree or any other decorations are not blocking any pathways.
  • Natural Christmas trees have a much higher risk for catching fire. If you use an artificial tree, make sure that it is flame retardant.

Let’s face it, we are all so busy this time of the year. We have last minute gift shopping, Christmas parades, work parties, family gatherings and all kinds of different activities to do in such a short amount of time. It is too easy to forget that simple decorations and an innocent little (or big) Christmas tree could start such a huge tragedy. You could be hanging up the Christmas lights outside with your son and maybe he wasn’t aware that you cannot overload the circuits. He plugged one too many light strands in and BOOM, an electrical fire has started. It is so important to educate not only yourself, but your family as well.

If you experience fire damage in your home, call Complete DKI 24/7. Our technicians work around the clock and are always fully prepared in uniforms and clearly marked Complete DKI vans. Our technicians are always professional and presentable! If you experience fire damage, please contact our full service location on Davis Highway by calling 850-CALL-DKI or 850-225-5354.

Complete DKI wishes you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

*REMEMBER… Christmas is the time to kindle a fire in the heart, not in your home!

Thanksgiving is one of America’s favorite holidays for obvious reasons… food. The delicious turkey, mash potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole; oh I could go on forever. While this is such a fun time of the year, we have to be extra careful when it comes to kitchen fires. Fire Safety in the kitchen is always important, especially during any big holiday such as Thanksgiving when there is a lot more activity going on than normal. Did you know that cooking is one of the leading causes for home fires and home injuries? Thanksgiving is one of the most common days for home cooking fires. Frying the turkey and other foods is the greatest risk for this! Complete DKI has some tips for you and your family on how to have a safe and fire-free Thanksgiving this year!

  • Try to keep children out of the kitchen while the meal is being prepared. We all know that sometimes our kids can get carried away and maybe even knock something over into an open flame. This could result in burns to themselves and others.
  • Don’t forget to turn off the burners that you are finished using. With so much activity going on, we can forget to do this very easily. Try using a timer as a reminder when a dish is done.
  • Try to make sure that pot handles on the stove top, are faced towards the middle of the stove at all times.
  • Never leave the kitchen unattended while frying, broiling or grilling food. Turn off the stove if you have to leave the room for any reason at all.
  • Make sure to keep any fabric (kitchen towels, clothing or pot holders) away from an open flame. Try not to wear any loose clothing while cooking in the kitchen.

Thanksgiving is such a fun holiday where we are surrounded by family and good food. You may not have a house fire on your mind, but we all need to be aware that they are very common. Your cousin Susan, who you haven’t seen in years, could walk through the door and as soon as you hear her voice greeting you and the family, you’ll run over to her with excitement to give her a warm welcome. By this time you have completely forgotten the fact that you have a turkey frying, potatoes over boiling and the casserole broiling in the oven. All of the sudden your fabulous Thanksgiving dinner has gone up in flames as well as your newly remodeled kitchen! Please be extremely cautious and aware of your surroundings while cooking this year so you can avoid having this tragedy happen in your home. Complete DKI wishes each and every one of you a SAFE and HAPPY Thanksgiving!
